Fall around Lake Norman is hard to beat. The weather finally cools down, football is back, patios become useful again, and apparently everyone decides it’s time to find a very large beer and see how long they can hold it at arm’s length.
If you're looking for Oktoberfest celebrations around Huntersville, Cornelius and the Lake Norman area, there are several worth putting on the calendar this year.
Primal Brewery Oktoberfest — Huntersville
Saturday, September 19, 2026 | Primal Brewery, Huntersville
Primal Brewery is going all-in on Oktoberfest with an all-day celebration at its Huntersville location. Expect traditional Oktoberfest Märzen, Kölsch, German-inspired food, live music and plenty of Bavarian competition.
The North Carolina Polka Time Allstars take over from 5–8 p.m., followed by a stein-holding competition at 6 p.m. and a lederhosen competition at 6:15 p.m. Admission is free, making this an easy Saturday stop for anyone in Huntersville or the southern Lake Norman area.
Lost Worlds Brewing Oktoberfest — Cornelius

One of the bigger Lake Norman Oktoberfest celebrations takes place right in Cornelius at Lost Worlds Brewing.
Lost Worlds will have its Oktoberfest and Festbier flowing along with live music from the OOPS Polka Band, Oktoberfest food, a stein-holding contest and an Oktoberfest Market running from noon until 5 p.m.
Admission and parking are free, and the event is both family- and dog-friendly. Lederhosen and dirndls aren't mandatory, but this is probably one of the few weekends of the year when nobody is going to question the decision.
Laketoberfest — Cornelius
Saturday, October 10, 2026 | 3–8 p.m. | Bailey Road Park
If you're looking for something geared toward the entire family, Laketoberfest is one of the signature fall events in Cornelius.
Held at Bailey Road Park, the free festival combines live music, North Carolina beer and wine, food trucks and a kids' zone. It's less traditional German Oktoberfest and more Lake Norman's own version of a fall beer and music festival—which isn't necessarily a bad trade.
It's also a good reminder of what makes fall around Lake Norman so enjoyable. You can spend the afternoon outside with the family, grab some local food and beer, listen to live music and still be home before it turns into a late night.
Worth the Drive: Mecktoberfest at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery
If you don't mind heading south into Charlotte, Olde Mecklenburg Brewery's annual Mecktoberfest is about as close as you'll get locally to a traditional German brewery celebration.
OMB is spreading the 2026 celebration across both of its locations. The LoSo brewery hosts weekends September 11–13 and September 18–20, while the Ballantyne location takes over October 2–4 and October 9–11.
Expect German food, live polka music, one-liter mugs, OMB's famous glass boots and stein-holding competitions. With its German-style beer, food and large biergarten, OMB is a natural fit for Oktoberfest.
Fall Is a Pretty Good Time to Live at the Lake
Summer gets most of the attention around Lake Norman, but fall might quietly be the better season. Cooler evenings, college football, outdoor festivals, breweries, golf and a little less boat traffic make September and October two of my favorite months here.
Whether you're spending Saturday at a brewery in Huntersville, listening to polka music in Cornelius or heading into Charlotte for Mecktoberfest, there's no shortage of excuses to get outside this fall.
